Bethany Beach Fishing Licenses: A Guide for Families and Tourists

Navigating fishing regulations is an important part of planning your trip to the Delaware coast. At Nomad Charters, we want to ensure your time on the water is stress-free and fully compliant with state laws. Whether you are targeting Flounder in the Indian River Bay or heading out for ocean wreck fishing in Bethany Beach, here is everything you need to know about licensing for the 2026 season.

The Charter Advantage: No License Required

One of the best benefits of booking with Nomad Charters is that you do not need to purchase an individual fishing license. Our professional charter boat license covers everyone on board—including the captain, crew, and all paying passengers—while you are fishing from our vessel. Additionally, you are exempt from the requirement to obtain a Fisherman Information Network (FIN) number while aboard our boat.

General License Requirements

If you plan to fish from the shore, a pier, or a private boat during your stay in Bethany Beach, Lewes, or Rehoboth, you will likely need a Delaware recreational fishing license.

  • Who Needs One: Any individual aged 16 or older (residents and non-residents).
  • What It Covers: A single license covers both saltwater (tidal) and freshwater (non-tidal) fishing, as well as crabbing and clamming.
  • FIN Number: All anglers 16+ must have a free Fisherman Information Network (FIN) number each year. This is automatically issued when you buy an individual license, but must be obtained separately (for free) if you are otherwise exempt.

2026 License Pricing

License Type Resident Fee Non-Resident Fee

Annual Fishing License $8.50 $20.00

7-Day Tourist License N/A $12.50

Trout Stamp (Adults) $4.20 $6.20

Trout Stamp (Youth 12-15) $2.10 $6.20

Note: A small agent fee (typically $2.50) is usually added at the time of purchase.

Exemptions and Special Cases

Delaware provides several exemptions for specific groups to encourage fishing across all generations:

  • Youth: Children under the age of 16 do not need a license or a FIN number.
  • Seniors: Delaware residents aged 65 and older are exempt from licensing but must carry proof of age and residency. Non-resident seniors are still required to purchase a license.
  • Surf Fishing: If you are the operator of a vehicle with a valid Delaware Surf Fishing Vehicle Permit and are actively fishing on a designated state park beach, you are exempt. (Occupants of the vehicle still need a license).
  • Free Fishing Days: In 2026, Delaware has designated June 7 and 8 as free fishing days when no license is required for anyone.

How to Get Your License

If you choose to fish outside of your scheduled trip with Nomad Charters, you can obtain a license through these convenient methods:

  1. Online: Visit the Digital DNREC ePermitting portal to purchase and print your license instantly.
  2. In-Person: Visit authorized agents throughout Bethany Beach and Lewes, including local bait and tackle shops or sporting goods stores.

Delaware Coastal Fishing And Scenic Views

This visual collection captures the rewarding moments that follow a properly planned day on the water with Nomad Charters. As you browse through these images, you will see the diverse environments of Bethany Beach, Lewes, and Rehoboth, ranging from the sun-drenched docks of the Indian River Inlet to the deep blue horizons of our nearshore wreck sites. Each photograph tells a story of a successful catch, featuring the vivid colors of silver-scaled Rockfish, the distinct patterns of Flounder, and the rugged beauty of Atlantic Seabass brought up from the submerged structures of the Delaware coast.

Beyond the impressive fish, this gallery invites you to experience the atmosphere of a professional outing on our 23-foot Jones Brothers vessel. You will find snapshots of peaceful mornings where the mist still hangs over the bay, vibrant sunsets reflecting off the calm inland waters, and the local wildlife—like ospreys and dolphins—that frequently join us on our trips. These images serve as a preview of what awaits when you have the right guidance and a worry-free day of fishing.
